“Unlocking Romsey Memories”
This year the Alzheimer Society’s ‘Dementia Action Week’ runs from May 21st – 27th, and members of Romsey Dementia Action Group (ROMDAG) are planning a number of special events for it.
One of these is a FREE event called ‘Unlocking Romsey Memories’, which Greenbuttercup CIC is hosting on Friday May 25th, 2018. The event will be held in the Green Room at the Plaza Theatre (by kind permission of RAODS), where Greenbuttercup CIC run monthly ‘Art & Craft’ sessions for those living with Dementia on behalf of ROMDAG. Between 10.30a.m. and 12.30p.m. anyone with a Dementia, who lives in and around Romsey (or used to live/work in, or even just visit Romsey), is invited to come along with their carer and/or relatives to enjoy a morning of reminiscences over coffee and cake.
A number of organisations have kindly agreed to lend us Romsey memorabilia and photos to help unlock those memories. Members of King John’s House will be present with some artefacts from their Museum; Romsey Show and the Romsey Signal Box are loaning items; the local history society (LTVAS) and owners of the Woodley Net website have allowed us access to their photos; and members of RAODS will be on hand to talk about the Plaza – which was a Cinema and Bingo Hall before the Theatre it is now.
Everyone is welcome to join us – just drop-in at any time and stay for as long as you like. If you have an object or photo which has a special memory of Romsey for you, we would love to see it, so please bring it along.
There is parking behind the theatre, and entry is by the side entrance up the accessible ramp. If you would like further information of this event, please contact Pamela on: Pamela@shadow26.plus.com or 01794 501605.
