Alongside my role with Romdag, I am also a PhD student at the University of Southampton. As part of my PhD, I am looking to speak to sons & daughters of people with dementia about their experiences of risk & safety for their parents with dementia.
If you are, or know anybody who might be interested in getting involved, please forward on my study poster and contact details: firstname.lastname@example.org
I am so grateful for all of the support from those of you I have met and spoken to and the rest of the Romdag team for their support of my PhD.
Thanks & best wishes

Here’s a photo of some of our latest dementia friends: The Lockerley Guides.
Thank you all for agreeing to an action to raise dementia awareness.
Those attending Greenbuttercup CIC’s extra Arts & Crafts session during the recent Dementia Awareness Week, enjoyed learning how to make forget-me-nots out of toilet roll inners ! The ‘forget-me-not’ is used as the logo for the Alzheimer’s Society and other dementia groups including ROMDAG.
These, as well as other ‘toilet roll’ flowers that were made during the morning, will go on display next month during the Romsey Festival. It is planned to have a vase of forget-me-nots in the Green Room at the Plaza Theatre (where the monthly Arts & Crafts sessions are held) during the “Inside Out Art Trail” (July 2nd) to advertise the classes. The others will become part of Greenbuttercup CIC’s main Festival event “All is Creative in the Garden”, which takes place in the Abbey URC from July 7th -16th.
For further details of the “Arts & Crafts sessions for people living with Dementia and their carers” contact: Pamela@shadow26.plus.com or call 01794 501605.
Details about the Festival events and where and when you can go and see these flowers, can be found on: www.greenbuttercup.org or www.romseyfestival.org.
Dementia AWARENESS WEEK – THANK YOU!
The Romsey Dementia Action Group hosted a range of activities during national Dementia Awareness Week (14th-21st May). Thank you to everyone who came and spoke to us on the market stall or attended the table tennis, arts and crafts or puzzle club sessions. The exercise class was graced with That’s Solent TVs presence, who filmed and interviewed participants and was shown on TV later that evening.
The first Romsey Memory Walk was launched, 17 attended the walk including two residents and carers from the Marie Louse House. The group took a leisurely stroll around places in interest in Romsey, including the Abbey, King Johns House and a quick stop at the Library to take in their dementia display. The walk is for those with memory problems and their carers but not exclusive, along the way interesting facts about the town are mentioned to stimulate conversation and memories. The walk takes little under an hour, with refreshments afterwards at Marie Louise House.
The new Romsey Memory Walk meets fortnightly on the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month, 10.30am at Marie Louis House, Newton Lane. A fellow Memory Walk is being launched in North Baddesley on 18th May, and will tale place every Thursday at 9.45am.

We at the Romsey Dementia Action Group (RomDAG) would like to say a huge congratulations and thank you to Kay & Terry. Kay & Terry were married on 18th March and generously chose to donate money from their wedding guests to RomDAG.
RomDAG is a volunteer led group aimed at promoting awareness and understanding of dementia across the community of Romsey. We hold regular activity groups for people living with dementia, dementia awareness sessions to promote understanding of dementia and host an annual dementia festival, Demfest, for our community to come together for music, activities and information in the name of those living with dementia. Demfest this year will be at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens on the 10th September 2017.
Kay & Terry donated the money to RomDAG to help support us to continue to provide the activity groups and Demfest. They chose our charity as a local group for dementia in honour of Terry’s first wife, Cynthia, who passed away from dementia in June 2010. Cynthia was a Romsey girl who was married to Terry for 44 years. Terry cared for Cynthia at home for 4 years before she moved to Thatchbury Manor care home for a further 4 years. Kay has been a family friend to Cynthia & Terry for 40 years & 4 years ago, Kay & Terry became partners and married in March this year.
We are so grateful to Kay & Terry for their wonderful donation and hope to do them proud with our ongoing activities. We would also like to wish them much love and happiness in their life together.
